Rock Dog News

Back to the Dog House

If you have been keeping up with our band news, it's not hard to tell that sometimes being in a band is one series of auditions after another.  Such has been the case over the last several months.  After the departure of Mike, who had been playing bass with Rockdog for the last several years, it was again time to find a replacement.

After posting several ads on the web and in the PA Musician, as well as calling some potential replacements, we began the process of trying, once again, to find the right musician.  If it were as easy as finding a good musician, everyone would be in a rock band.  Musicianship is about half the equation.  The other half is personality.  Nobody wants to be in a band with a pompous rock star A hole.  Seeing how Rockdog pride themselves as being a group of seasoned experienced musicians, none of us has the time to put up with attitude, so we were very careful during auditions to find the right fit.

After weeding out some potentials on the phone, our first audition was with Bassman Dan, who was a really nice guy, but more of a guitar player than a bass player.  Dan actually auditioned twice and played some of his originals for us on guitar, but ultimately we had to pass.  Thanks Dan for your time and we wish you luck in finding the right project.  Our second audition was with Ken. Ken came to audition and was pretty impressive. He then came back for a second audition at which point we offered him the job.  He told us he would get back to us after he had taken care of a medical issue. He put us on indefinate hold  so we sent him an add for a bassist and continued our search.  Anyway Ken if you're reading this, good luck to you also in your next project.

During this time, we got a call from our old guitarist Coz, who offered to play bass until we found a replacement.  Thanks Coz for the offer.  It is greatly appreciated, and continued success in your current band Broken Cyrcle.  The reason we did not take Coz up on his offer is because right around that time we got a call from Steve.  Steve, as it turns out, is a good bass player, and imagine our surprise, is not an A hole.  A second audition, some band discussion, and welcome Steve dog to Rockdog.  We are whole again.

Rockdog is now under new management.  After careful consideration about the direction we wanted to go in as a band, we decided that an outside influence as well as an objective voice would be in our best interest.  Our management promises to have Rockdog appearing more often and tighter than ever in new clubs and different locations.  Keep the gigs rolling in Alby.

Rockdog will be at the KK Tavern in West Hanover on April 12th.  We love that place and have a great time every time in there.  We hope to see all the regulars because we will have our cameras out in full force and will be posting a lot of pictures of the crowd up on our website.  See you there.  Also this month we will be at Sorb's Place in Liverpool for the first time.  Looking forward to this gig and thanks to Bob Sorber for coming out to see us and giving us some dates.

Anyway, that's about all the news we have for now.  Hopefully the next time we have some news for you it won't involve auditions.  Until the next time, stay safe and keep rockin.
